The Waukegan Park District’s Field House Sports and Fitness Center was selected to receive the Outstanding Facility and Parks Award for a multiple use facility by the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association. “This award recognizes public agencies for their exceptional and unique achievements in design and development. It is an honor to announce that your nomination scored the highest total points among those entries submitted in your division and category from across the State of Illinois,” stated Matt Saviello, award selection committee co-chair.
The Waukegan Park District is the proud recipient of an award from the Illinois Association of Landscape Architects for the newly renovated Bowen Park playground. An Honor Award for Superior Professional Achievement was given to Hitchcock Design Group for their design of “A Unique Play Environment”. The award was presented at the annual ILASLA Awards Dinner on December 5th in Chicago.
The Waukegan Park District and Field House Sports and Fitness Center is excited to announce that all yearly fitness center memberships now include free group exercise fitness classes as part of membership. This new membership benefit includes classes like Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing and many more.
Volleyball Skills and Drills teaches volleyball basics to children. Children interested in learning more about the game of volleyball should enroll in this fun and fast-paced program taught by Jaime Rivera. Children will learn such basics as: setting, passing, overhand serving and spiking. Meet new friends, have fun and stay active through this athletic activity.
Waukegan Park District’s Field House Sports and Fitness Center was recently honored for Excellence in Marketing by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), an international association in lifelong learning. [read more]
Moody’s Investors Service has assigned an A 1 rating to the Waukegan Park District’s (IL) $8.5 million General Obligation Bonds (Alternate Revenue Source), Series 2008B.
Work to begin on Outdoor Sports Complex. Bids are being sought for Phase 1. The Phase 1 work includes temporary construction entrances, site construction fencing, tree relocation, establishment of a temporary tree nursery for future transplanting and tree removal at the site, 3650 N. Green Bay Road, Waukegan. Work shall commence after January 1, 2009. [read more]

There will be two positions on the ballot in April of 2009. A six-year position currently held by Commissioner Terry Duffy and the six year position currently held by Commissioner Pat Foley. Both incumbents Duffy and Foley have announced their intention to run for re-election to the park board.
