A Place for All Those Baby Toys

A Place for All Those Baby Toys

Buying baby furniture takes some thought on exactly what you are
going to need and how you will use it in the limited space in
the baby's room you are putting together. You know you need
space for the clothing, the diapers, the sheets and blankets and
all the other supplies you need to have on hand when that little
one moves into that room and makes it her own.

But one category of items that is very much necessary in the
life of any child is toys. So you are smart to start planning
now for where you are going to store all those toys once they
start accumulating which will begin at the baby shower before
that tyke is even born.

It's really easy to see toys begin to stack up all over the
baby's room as soon as she moves in with all the things
grandparents, friends and aunts and uncles give not to mention
the many toys brought in by an overenthusiastic daddy. Stuffed
animals are adorable but when they become a mountain in the
corner, something has to give.

But as your baby gets older and a few birthdays or Christmas
celebrations go by, the toys become more varied. There may be
blocks, dolls, cars and army men for a little boy or playhouses
and games for that little girl. And baby is the last one to be
good at cleaning all that stuff up.

So to get out ahead of the avalanche of toys, its good to think
ahead about what kind of toy chest you are going to put in her
room to keep her favorite toys so she can get to them easily
once the baby gets mobile. The variety of toy chests is as
diverse as the kinds of rooms they are going into.

The first deciding factor of what kind of toy chest to get is
the floor space you can give to it. This can be a decision you
make even before you put the first stick of furniture in the
baby room. Decide well in advance where you want the toy chest
or closet to be and how much floor space to give to it.

This is going to take some imagination to think into the future
about where the baby might be playing knowing that he would
probably spend a lot of time getting in and out of that toy
chest. So it must be located in a place that is safe and
convenient for baby and for mom and dad.

You don't have to locate the toy chest in the baby's room. If
you feel she will be playing more in the living room, you can
find a nice spot for it there. Having plenty of floor space in
front of the chest is good so she can pull things out and
explore them at her leisure. And if that floor space is not a
major traffic area so baby is safe and mom and dads feet are
safe from injury from stepping on toys, that's a good spot.

Also think about security. If the lid lifts, it should stay up
on its own so the baby doesn't drop it on his own hands or head.
But at the same time, you want to be able to latch it shut so
when the times come that you don't want baby getting into the
chest, you can secure it away.

This toy chest may very well be the kind of durable baby
furniture that stays with your little one all of her life. It
can evolve in use from a place for toys to a place for diaries
or special keepsakes to a hope chest for a young girl looking
forward to romance. And when that toy chest moves out with her
to evolve back to become a toy chest again for your
grandchildren, you will remember when you shopped for that
special piece and put some time and effort into making it
something that would last a lifetime.
